THE DEFLECTION CONVERSATION FRAMEWORK: A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT TOOL FOR FIRST RESPONDERS
Module One
Module One, The Science of Addiction, provides learners with knowledge of SUDs, recovery, and how substance use affects behaviors and decision-making patterns in everyday life. Learners will hear from an individual with lived experience and gain an understanding of how deflection could have provided them with the support and resources needed.
Module Two
Module Two, The Deflection Conversation Framework, dives into various approaches to building strong community partnerships with other service providers and stakeholders and ways to decrease stigma to reduce barriers to accessing treatment and services.
Module Three
Module Three, Application of the Deflection Conversation Framework, is an overview of practical, evidence-based strategies for engaging individuals struggling with SUDs, including using person-first language and proven approaches for effective engagement.
