One of the most important services some community paramedics now offer is medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to prevent patients from suffering withdrawal symptoms while awaiting treatment, otherwise known as the Bridge to Treatment or, simply, the Bridge Program. Two of the first countywide emergency medical services (EMS) to offer the Bridge to Treatment are featured in this article: Stanly County EMS in Stanly County, North Carolina, and Onslow County EMS in Onslow County, North Carolina.
