Champion of Recovery: Kimberly Govak

Kimberly Govak is a Program Manager with Faces and Voices of Recovery, a nonprofit organization dedicated to organizing Americans in recovery from dependence on alcohol and other drugs, their families, friends, and allies into recovery community organizations (RCOs) and networks in order to promote the right resources to recover through advocacy, education, and demonstrating the power and proof of long-term recovery. Kimberly is a national certified peer recovery support specialist who has been in recovery for 17 years; she previously served as director of a regional RCO in southern New Jersey. “I learned that recovery is not a solitary effort; it is collaborative. I needed, and still need, individuals who have lived experience. I needed all of that support to learn that I was causing myself harm,” Kimberly says. “One of the most poignant and impactful changes that Faces and Voices of Recovery makes is helping emerging organizations in their mission to deliver quality recovery support services to the individuals that they’re serving—helping RCOs who are providing these invaluable services to build their capacity and to ensure that they’re supported in a participatory way, instead of a prescriptive way.”
